American Kennel Club: Puts PROFITS over WELFARE

American Kennel Club: Puts PROFITS over WELFARE
The Issue
When talking about puppy mills, a name that seems to be left out of the discussion is the American Kennel Club. It’s time for that to change! What is not widely known, or is ignored, is that a lot of puppy mill dogs are AKC registered. This explains why the AKC has fought EVERY bill to end puppy mills! They stand to lose a HUGE source of income if mills are closed!
They fight these bills with their talking points or #AKCAgenda, about a persons choice, that all breeding will be banned, and the particularly vile hashtag #RetailRescue, which is making the rounds on social media claiming rescues are trying to shut down mills and pet store sales so the rescues can start ‘selling’ and profiting. While there may be unscrupulous rescues out there, I find it disgusting and shameful these attacks put out just so they can not have their mill profits shut off!
You may have seen other talking points like #ResponsibleBreeders, #preservationbreeders, & #purebreddogs along with #RetailRescue. These are usually posted by AKC affiliated breeders & dog clubs. What these people are choosing to ignore is that they are being used by the #AKCAgenda to fight bills that would ACTUALLY BENEFIT them, the #ResponsibleBreeders, by having the AKC name mean something again, and NOT lump them in with mills!! NO RESPONSIBLE BREEDER would sell their puppies through a pet store, so why do they allow the AKC to use them to fight pet store and puppy mill bills? Why do they breed responsibly, in a home environment, breed for health & temperament, know where their puppies go, and limit their names and lines from being bred by anyone, when the AKC views their dedication & work on the same level as someone running a puppy mill in horrible conditions? Time for #ResponsibleBreeders to stand up to the #AKC and tell them to do the right thing!
The American Kennel Club can’t prevent someone from breeding. What they CAN do is take away registration ability from the mills and their name, which will most likely cause mills to lose money & possibly shut down, make the AKC name mean something again, and have people actually meeting and knowing where their puppies come from if they choose to buy. It’s time for the AKC to put WELFARE over PROFIT!
