It’s time for American Girl to create a scoliosis brace

It’s time for American Girl to create a scoliosis brace
The Issue
For so many young girls, scoliosis is a harsh reality that they have to deal with everyday. They are required to wear a brace for up to 20 hours a day 7 days a week. For many of these girls, wearing this brace is the only way to prevent difficult and painful surgery but wearing one is not easy.
My daughter was diagnosed with an aggressive form of scoliosis at 6 years old. Wearing a brace for 18-20 hours each day is something that has become harder and harder for her as she gets older. She feels different and embarrassed. She cries because her friends don’t have a scoliosis brace and she doesn’t understand why this happened to her. Like so many other little girls, she loves her American girl doll and wanted to get a brace for her doll, but we were both surprised when we realized that American Girl does not have scoliosis braces for their dolls. Browsing through their store or their website you will find crutches, hearing aids, wheelchairs, casts, eyeglasses, and dental appliances, all of which are wonderful and inclusive but there is an entire population of young girls that would love to put a scoliosis brace on their favorite doll. It would make putting that brace on maybe just a little easier. Please sign and tell American Girl that little girls with scoliosis would love to feel special with a brace for their doll.
