Shut Down Puppy Barn in American Fork Utah!

The Issue

Please help the puppies of Utah and shut down Puppy Barn in American Fork, Utah. Puppy Barn is continuously negligent and refuses to answer to the publics concern about the well being of the puppies in their care. We are asking American Fork City officials to close down Puppy Barn and pass legislation making it illegal to sell puppies for business profit in American Fork.

Puppy Barn deceives customers and the public about the origin of puppies they acquire. They very rarely information on parents or pictures of the parents and no genetic testing to ensure healthy puppies. This leaves many, uneasy about the intentions of Puppy Barn owners.

Puppy Barn claims they care about the puppies and bringing the public the highest quality puppies, but they lack the very basics. There have been numerous Puppy Barn customers say that the puppy they purchased has contracted Parvovirus, a highly contagious and deadly disease. Puppy Barn staff say they test for Parvovirus when the puppies arrive but upon request of the results they deny them to the purchaser. After parvovirus outbreaks at Puppy Barn, they continue to remain open, even though they are aware of the disease that has been in their store. Parvovirus, unless proper sanitizing is complete, can live in the environment for years. They also fail to inform the public and health officials of this disease, leaving many upon many local dogs at risk.

Puppy Barn also purchases puppies at an average of 4-6 weeks of age. This is not acceptable in most states, and it shouldn't be acceptable here in Utah. Puppies need to stay with their mom until a minimum of 8 weeks of age, to ensure proper social training from mom is received. If not, this can lead to behavioral problems, including but not limited to, aggression and fear biting. Puppy Barn does not disclose actual age of puppies anymore after the public started questioning them about this unethical practice. They instead say all puppies are 8+ weeks, but upon veterinary exam, most owners are told their puppy is only 6-7 weeks.

The state of Utah requires a person to be 18+ to purchase a dog, Puppy Barn however, has sold to minors. Does no screening of any kind, and it just shows complete lack of empathy and kindness towards the puppies who can't control the situation they are forced into.

Puppy Barn also claims they are a rescue, which is untrue. They do not adopt out puppies, they sell them for profit. They claim to be a rescue and adopt out the puppies, but there is nothing to back up the claims they make in that regard, as they do not follow any required guidelines to be considered a rescue.

They have deceived customers into thinking they are paying top dollar for a pure bred dog, when in fact, they are over paying for a mutt. They often are incorrect about the breed the puppies are, and often times are incorrect in the information given to customers on proper care and exercise, as well as environment the puppies require. They have also been know to sell illegal wolf hybrids, knowing full well that they are illegal, but not telling the purchasers that the puppy they just bought is illegal to own in most cities of Utah (including American Fork).

When someone purchases a sick puppy, Puppy Barn has been reluctant to help the new owners, even if it can be proved the illness came from Puppy Barn. This is no life for a puppy, they need exercise and stimulation for proper development, being kept in livestock troughs, with as much as 9 puppies per container is in no way beneficial to the puppy. They state in one of their documents to not over handle the puppy, but Puppy Barn lets anybody and everybody in there to hold and play with the puppies, and does not even enforce the rules they put in place. Making Puppy Barn a toxic environment, to not only the puppies there but the dogs and puppies that are exposed to the diseases originating from there.

All in all, we ask American Fork City, to listen to the public's concerns and close down Puppy Barn. It doesn't benefit anyone but the owners of Puppy Barn.
