Our Rights to our Service Dogs

Our Rights to our Service Dogs
The Issue
Hello everyone, my name is Cemily. After an unfortunate event on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, I decided it is time for somebody to step in and make a petition regarding service dogs. I was arrested for a minor issue that could have easily been resolved. Upon my arrest, my service dog- Meiko, was with me. A sergeant deliberately forced my arms to be locked behind my back, after telling him the law is to cuff deaf and hard of hearing to the front. During that incident, my dog became aggressive because the sergeant and another officer were hurting me. After locking me in the patrol car, sergeant was aggravating Meiko in the car to try to leash him. Instead of allowing me to do it in a calming manner. I tried to get a friend to come and get him but the officer refused to let me finish my conversation and forced animal control to be involved. Animal Control officer and sergeant both had sticks to try to take Meiko out. They struggled a good 20 min or so. I have never cried so hard watching what they did to him and pondering heavy thoughts what they would do to him in custody. This is NOT right! My petition that I want to propose is that Police Officers/Enforcement and Animal Control should NOT be allowed to touch ANY service animals or separate them from their owners. After being released, I couldn't get to Meiko until the next day due to the shelter being closed. When picking him up I saw a picture of blood in front of him and nobody could tell me what happened. Meiko was filthy, soaked and scared he wouldn't come to me upon me calling him over, until I forced them to open the gate. Monday morning, January 27, I woke up to Meiko dripping blood on me from his mouth. His mouth was swollen and he has been laying all day and night. I feel helpless. This was the cause of their forcing to get him out of the car but told me its not their fault. I am pressing charges on both. So, I am asking everybody who believes this new law should pass - to sign this petition and share all around in hopes we can change the world. Not just for us, but for the dogs!
