Twenty years ago, the American political class sent our military into Afghanistan with two objectives:

- Eliminate Afghanistan as a terrorist haven.
- Remove the Taliban from power.

Twenty years later, a trillion dollars in taxpayer wealth later, after thousands of American soldiers have been killed, wounded, and maimed, and thousands of civilians have been killed, Afghanistan is again a terrorist haven and the Taliban are back in charge. This Afghanistan chapter in American history is one of the worst strategic and failed endeavors ever inflicted on the country by the American political class.

As a result of this twenty year, failed, expensive, and bloody experience, this petition calls for three actions by politicians in Washington:

1) The immediate resignation of every member of Congress who has been in office since this Afghanistan operation began.

2) The denial of retirement and other Congressional perks to anyone who was in office during the past twenty years, failure should not be rewarded.

3) The immediate resignation of everyone who has been involved in the recent withdrawal debacle, a disaster that has resulted in the unnecessary deaths of 13 U.S. service people and dozens of innocent Afghani civilians, and which has trapped thousands of American citizens behind Taliban roadblocks and blockades, subjecting them to likely Taliban violence and retaliation. Thus, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley also need to resign immediately for their strategic and management incompetence.

History will judge this twenty year Afghanistan operation very harshly from a wasted expense, bloodshed, and strategic perspective. It is time that those responsible for the disaster no longer be allowed into any position of power in the Federal government for their part in creating and perpetuating this sad chapter in American history.
