I am a pediatric Oncology nurse.  I have cared for multiple children battling cancer and have grown to love their strength, courage, and determination to conquer their disease.  What I have realized while caring for children with cancer, is their ability to maintain their imagination and ability to continue to function and play like a normal child.  I agree that children are worth more than gold, and that children deserve a "gold" metal for their battle.        Unfortunately, the gold ribbon is commonly confused with other gold and yellow ribbons, and I don't feel that childhood cancer is getting all of the attention it deserves.  Frequently, childhood cancer ribbons are made in deep yellows, instead of metallic gold, and are confused with support our troop ribbons and other ribbons.  Also, the color gold is commonly associated with old age, not youth and children.  Bright and colorful ribbons, such as the bright puzzle ribbon for autism are easily identified with their cause.          Working with children, and speaking with their families, many parents agree that the gold ribbon does not capture the play and personality of children.  I believe that Childhood Cancer Awareness could be increased with a unique child-like ribbon.  I would love to see a multiple color polka dot ribbon or something bright and fun.  Children fight just as hard as adults with illness and deserve the same recognition.   Help me change the color of the Childhood Cancer Awareness ribbon!
