American Airlines must make a clear, public commitment: never again will it participate in deportation flights—chartered or commercial, direct or disguised.

In 2019, American facilitated 345 deportation flights for ICE. These weren’t just flights; they were forced returns, tearing families apart, sending people who were seeking refuge back into danger, and quietly supporting a system built on cruelty.

Now, as ICE looks to renew and expand partnerships with carriers like Avelo Airlines, which recently entered into an agreement to assist with deportation flights, American has a choice to make.

Do not be complicit.

Flight attendants have spoken up. Communities have taken a stand. It’s time for American Airlines to act with the same moral courage.

American cannot control immigration policy, but it can control its role in it. We are not asking for politics. We are asking for principles.

American Airlines must vow never to fly deportation flights again.
