AMERICA, WE MUST SAVE THE PENNY - It Makes “Cents”
The Issue
Let’s take a stand. It's time to protect the smallest change.
Countries like Canada and Italy have retired their 1-cent coins, and recently, the U.S. Mint pondered production pros and cons. The penny is becoming endangered.
That’s not cool. Pennies are worth more than just pennies…just recently, a single penny from 1943 was found to be worth almost $2 million dollars (that’s 200,000,000 pennies for just ONE historic penny!). We shouldn’t live in a world without lucky pennies.
That's why Metromile, the leading pay-per-mile auto insurer, is fighting for change. Literally. We’re trying to save the smallest change - the U.S. penny ($0.01) - so that more drivers can pay even fewer pennies per mile on their car insurance.
“Metromile is driven to offer the fairest auto insurance -- helping you save hundreds of dollars by only paying pennies per mile,” said Debra Jack, VP of Communications at Metromile. “To keep drivers’ car insurance costs as low as possible, we encourage everyone to go the extra mile with us and “insure” the penny’s survival by signing our petition.”
Metromile will “insure” pennies stay in circulation by:
- Beginning to pay our employees in pennies
- Constructing a giant penny monument in front of our Metromile office in the heart of San Francisco and in every major city where we operate, across Arizona, California, Illinois, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington.
- Sprinkling good luck pennies (heads up, of course) in all 8 states where Metromile is available
Let common cents prevail. Sign and share this petition to save the penny today.
