The Issue

For the family and friends of my brother Ernesto Morales.
My brother is more than a court case. He is a human being with struggles, struggling not because he poses a threat to society, but because of a battle with alcohol and drugs. As it stands, the sentence offered by the public defender to my brother is a disturbingly lengthy one, lacking humanity and compassion.
I’d like to see my brother receive treatment for his condition as a mental health and medical issue rather than penalizing him with years of his life, away from his community and without the help he needs. This petition aims to redirect the public defender's approach to cases like my brother's. It's an appeal for justice, for empathy, and for a fair chance for those struggling with addiction issues across the nation. This message by no means takes away the responsibility of the fact that my brother made a mistake. And for this mistake, he must pay, but not what they are trying to give him.

My brother is not a menace to society. He has a wonderful history of success and clean time. He is loved by many people. From recovery groups, to business, and to family. Please sign the petition and make your voice count.
