Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti: Tell your Friendship City, Seoul, South Korea, that you are opposed to the torture and consumption of dogs and cats.
Seoul became a Friendship City with Los Angeles, California in 2006.
Seoul is the largest dog meat consumption city in South Korea. In Seoul, there are countless dog meat shops, farms, slaughterhouses, markets, and restaurants where the dogs, who are tortured their entire lives, end up being slaughtered in the most inhumane ways, such as by electrocution, hanging, or beating; and then thrown into boiling water – sometimes while they are still alive. In many places, dogs are being killed in full view of other terrified, caged dogs. In addition, many abandoned and stolen former pets end up in this industry and are subject to the same cruelty.
We cannot stand by while Seoul continues to deceive us and inflict unimaginable cruelty on animals who consider humans guardians and companions. So we are now asking Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Los Angeles City Council members to urge Iksan to stop the dog and cat meat industry in their city – an illegal, brutal, and diabolical industry.
