The Issue

Violence has time and again swept through our cities and provinces across Canada. We've all been affected, in one way or another, by acts of violence committed against our children and it needs to cease, effective immediately. The recent swarm in Kelowna, BC, must serve as an eye-opener to lawmakers to initiate immediate changes. We propose key amendments to the 2019 Provincial Criminal Youth Justice Act to effectively curb these issues. Firstly, we need to establish a rehabilitation center in the Okanagan. This center should focus on repeat offenders, specifically dealing with violence, bullying, harassment, and mental health.

Secondly, parents of repeat offenders need to bear some responsibility. We want stricter laws that will impose fines after repeated offenses committed by their children. This method of accountability could potentially deter minors from reoffending.

Lastly, we should legislate against social platforms like Snapchat, making it compulsory for them to share crucial information concerning violent or harmful behavior with parents and the police. This transparency is key in preventing continuing harassment, violence, and hate amongst teens.

By adapting our laws to the evolving needs of the society, we can create safer communities for our children to grow in. Our request is practical, necessary, and urgent. It's time for our lawmakers to take action. Please sign this petition to urge for these changes to the 2019 Provincial Criminal Youth Justice Act.
