As a father, my utmost priority is the safety and well-being of my children, as well as the children in our community. Our current legal framework in Tennessee is insufficient when it comes to protecting minors from solicitation due to outdated wording of the state statute. Tennessee's law on the solicitation of a minor must be amended to better align with those of our surrounding states and federal standards. This is crucial in ensuring a more robust defense against predators who prey on the vulnerable.

Currently, the Tennessee statute lacks clarity and stringency, thereby creating loopholes that can be exploited. Unlike federal law and the laws of neighboring states, which make it a crime to solicit or engage in sexual conversations with anyone believed, or reasonably appearing to be, underage, Tennessee's statute falls short.
