Amend Pennsylvania Cosmetology Law to Include Dermaplaning in the Scope of an Esthetician
Amend Pennsylvania Cosmetology Law to Include Dermaplaning in the Scope of an Esthetician
The Issue
My sister and I are proud owners of CB Face Bar, an esthetic salon in Pittsburgh. For three years, we have strived to offer our clients a full range of services, with dermaplaning being our most sought-after treatment. Unfortunately, during a recent inspection from the state board, we were found at fault for offering this service despite there being no written law against dermaplaning in the cosmetology board's guidelines.
The lack of clarity and defined regulation surrounding dermaplaning in Pennsylvania is adversely affecting not just our business, but also many other esthetics salons across the state who offer this service. The treatment has been shown to be safe and effective for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz).
We are requesting an amendment to the existing Cosmetology Law in Pennsylvania, more specifically recognizing dermaplaning within the scope of an esthetician. This will ensure a clearer, unambiguous stance for industry professionals and regulators, supporting salon owners in providing the best services to our clients. It will also help safeguard business operations against regulatory uncertainties.
Join us in our plea for clarity and inclusive regulation that reflects modern practices and tools in the beauty industry. Sign our petition. Let's make our beauty industry in Pennsylvania better, clearer, and stronger.
