The Issue

I’ve been a resident here for nearly 15 year and I enjoy being able to take my golf cart down the street to take evening walks on the beach with my kids. However, current regulations in North Myrtle Beach force me to rush home before sunset. It's frustrating when my golf cart is equipped with headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals, yet I can't use it after daylight hours, unlike Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs) that enjoy this privilege.

The City of North Myrtle Beach allows LSVs to be driven at night because they meet certain safety requirements. Many golf cart owners like myself have upgraded our vehicles to meet these same safety standards. Yet, because of unfair and seemingly illogical regulations, our family time and leisurely evening activities are cut short.

I propose that the City amend its golf cart regulations, to permit owners with adequately equipped golf carts to drive them after dark. This adjustment would not only support local families in enjoying the beautiful beach evenings but also provide a safer, uniform policy for all lighted vehicles on the road.

The state of South Carolina recently passed updated legislation that would allow the City to legalize golf carts equipped with proper lighting for night-time operation. This would pose no greater risk than what is currently allowed with LSV operation at night.

Your support can make a difference in our community. Together, let's call on the City of North Myrtle Beach to rethink its golf cart policy and authorize night-time operations for vehicles equipped with necessary safety features. Please sign this petition to encourage a fair, logical, and family-friendly change!
