Amend Georgia's constitution to stop partisan gerrymandering

The Issue

Growing up, I learned about the foundational principles that our country was built upon and marveled at the strides we've made to ensure those principles protect everyone. But, I've also come to understand the glaring flaws in our system, especially when it comes to how voting districts are drawn. Historically regarded as a contemptible practice, gerrymandering has been a blemish on the democratic process, allowing parties to manipulate districts for political gain. It's time we addressed this issue at its core in Georgia.

Our current districting process is susceptible to political bias, and as such, does not reflect the true voice of the people. This perversion of democracy dilutes an individual’s vote, skews representation, and fosters unnecessary division. We need to adopt a system that prioritizes fairness and impartiality.

The solution lies in establishing a constitutionally-backed independent and non-partisan committee dedicated to drawing district maps. Currently, several states have reformed their redistricting processes with positive outcomes, including Michigan and Arizona. These states have demonstrated that it's possible to develop electoral boundaries in a manner that truly represents their constituencies, rather than catering to partisan interests.

In Georgia, we have the opportunity to lead by example. By amending our state’s constitution, we can create and empower an independent body to oversee redistricting, completely removing partisan influence from the equation. Implementing such a measure would ensure every Georgian’s vote is counted fairly and equitably, fostering a healthier, more representative democracy.

Inaction is a choice we cannot afford. The consequences of gerrymandering are too dire; it stains the democratic process and chips away at public trust in our electoral system. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to fight for an equitable voting process that lives up to American ideals.

Join me in calling on Georgia's lawmakers to make this crucial amendment to our constitution, ensuring a fair and balanced electoral system for all. Your signature can help drive the change Georgia needs. Sign this petition today and let's work together to create a future where every vote truly counts.
