Amend Concurrent Enrollment Rules for High School Students

Amend Concurrent Enrollment Rules for High School Students
The Issue
I'm a high school student with grand ambitions for my college journey, yet find myself hindered by the current concurrent enrollment rules. I believe, along with many peers, that we should be allowed to earn high school credits for college-level courses. This change will not only further our education but encourage and foster intellectual curiosity. Furthermore, this shouldn't be simply an avenue for students with impacted schedules: all of us deserve opportunity to excel academically.
A 2024 report from the Community College Research Center (CCRC) at Teachers College, Columbia University found that dual enrollment students are more likely to enroll in and complete college compared to their peers who did not participate (Community College Research Center, 2024). This flexible course structure ultimately prepares students for the rigors of higher education like no high school course could. However, current policy stifles this progression, limiting the potential of countless students like me. Policies should serve to enhance students' knowledge and ambition, not hinder it. Let's encourage academic creativity and excellence by amending these concurrent enrollment rules.
