Amend Comox by-law #1652 16-17, on Sundays regarding construction noise and fines.
The Issue
For those of us residing around Aspen and Hector roads in Comox, the reality is a constant barrage of noise from commercial construction. From the early hours of the morning until the evening, seven days a week, the peace and tranquility of our neighborhood is shattered by the relentless cacophony of construction vehicles, equipment, and machinery. This isn't just a minor inconvenience; it’s an intrusion affecting our peace, mental health and overall well-being.
Imagine waking up on a Sunday morning, hoping to enjoy your cup of coffee on the porch, basking in the natural beauty of your surroundings, only to be greeted by the incessant drone of hammering, beeping, and engines revving. This is meant to be our day of rest, our time to unwind and reconnect with our families and nature. Yet, we find ourselves trapped in a cycle of constant noise 7 days a week . We are unable to fully relax in our own homes.
This isn’t just a personal plea; it's a call for community-wide action. The entire town feels the burden of non-stop construction noise. It is vital that we preserve one day, Sunday, as a day of peace.
We propose an amendment to the current noise by-law in Comox to restrict non-emergency commercial construction operations on Sundays and to increase fines for violations of this law. By doing so, we provide residents a necessary respite and ensure that the peaceful character of our town is maintained.
Statistics show that noise pollution significantly affects stress levels, sleep quality, and overall mental health. According to the World Health Organization, excessive noise can lead to ailments ranging from insomnia to cardiovascular issues. The need for a quieter environment isn’t merely a luxury – it’s a necessity for the health of our community.
We appreciate the economic benefits of construction and development, but these should not come at the cost of our residents' well-being and quality of life. Our request is simple – balance progress with peace.
Help us bring this vital change to our community by lending your voice. Sign this petition to amend Comox’s noise by-law and ensure peace and quiet for everyone on Sundays.
