Not everyone has marriage equality in Alberta.
Did you know dependent adults known a 'represented adults' still need a doctor’s note to get married and a guardian's consent? Marriage Act Section 27, part 2
A doctor's note creates more red tape; costs money, more forms, and many Albertans today do not have access to a family doctor.
The Right to Love group started in 2010 and has talked with Albertans why healthy sexuality and eduction help to keep people safe and in health relationships. We believe a guardian's consent is enough for 8500 represented adults who may wish to get married.
We are very encourage Vital Statistics will be reviewing the legislation for Spring 2015. Please accept my signature to support the removal of the provsion requing a physician to provide written approval before the issuance of a marriage licence *Marriage Act Section 27" and exclude requirement for a doctor's permission for Represented Adults to marry in the province of Alberta.
