Mike Penn started this petition to Amber Valley Borough Council and

We are a group of Belper, (Derbyshire), residents who are fighting a planning application being made by our local Church, (St Peters Parish), which will completely destroy an important natural green area in a heavily populated Belper road called Kilbourne Road.  The area concerned are historic Church Allotments, left wild and thus rich in biodiversity, home to numerous birds and small creatures and rich with wild flowers, very mature trees and shrubs, in fact the last small oasis of biodiverse greenery in a densely populated busy road with existing traffic and parking issues.  We and locals are completely dismayed at the outright hypocrisy of the Vicar at the helm of this decision/action. St Peters Church is adorned with displays of green articles and magazines etc urging environmental protection and action, it claims to be a green Church with an eco Church award from arocha.org.uk and promotes protection of all gods creatures and creations and a need to protect nature and environment.  A Church which openly claims to support green issues. However, in the pursuit of maximum financial gain the Church has decided to apply for planning permission for housing construction on these old disused allotments. The land itself is completely unsuitable for housing construction and would create unnecessary environmental destruction, numerous serious safety issues for her parishioners and road and pavement users, particularly affecting the safety of  children walking to and from two large schools.  Due to extremely restrictive access it would create complete traffic chaos and encroach seriously on local residents privacy and enjoyment of their own homes.  The Vicar has refused to enter into any dialogue with those of her parishioners who would be most greatly affected, appears to be completely dismissive of any environmental responsibility whatsoever in relation to this land nor thought for the bird life and creatures, plants and mature and young trees that would be destroyed. Being understanding of the need for Church funds a group of us made a generous collective offer to buy the land, (above its current worth), in an effort to save the trees, habitat and greenery and keep it forever green. However this has been dismissed without dialogue presumably in favour of trying to maximise financial gain,(housing planning permission), before anything else.  Being fully aware of local objection ,(a hand signed local petition already exists),she has failed to enter into dialogue or personally reply to the many e mails we have sent.
The Church are very large and wealthy UK landowners who should be on board with current environmental and climate change issues but this is an excellent example of monetary greed before environment.  Please sign our petition to help stop this green destruction, save this biodiverse habitat and importantly call the Church to account.

Thank you
