Dear Honorable Ambassador Ishikane, 

Millions around the world are deeply troubled by your country's recent decision to leave the International Whaling Commission and to resume full commercial whaling operations. Food sources from whale meat are simply no longer required in Japan. 

If the motivation for the slaughter of whales is to continue a tradition, then we can only say that some traditions like this one need to end. 

We the undersigned commit to whenever possible avoiding the purchase of any Japanese products - including Japanese cars - until such time as Japan joins the vast majority of nations and stops commercial whaling. The marketplace gives us all choices, and there are many excellent alternatives to your products produced by countries that do not engage in this inhuman and unwarranted destruction of whale populations.
