Amazon KDP: Stop Unjust Account Terminations and Protect Publishers and Authors

The Issue

For years, Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) has been a vital platform for publishers and authors to share their work with the world. However, recent draconian measures taken by KDP are threatening the livelihoods of countless independent publishers and authors.

I am a publisher who has been working with KDP since 2016, representing many talented authors. Recently, my account was terminated without due process, based on a false claim that I maintain a duplicate account—a claim that is entirely untrue. Prior to this, book after book was banned from the platform without any clear explanation or actionable guidance. Each time I reached out for clarification, I received only vague, generic responses pointing to Amazon’s overly broad terms of service.

This sudden and unjust termination of my account not only affects me but also the many authors I represent, whose livelihoods depend on their work being available on the KDP platform. Amazon’s lack of transparency and accountability leaves publishers and authors powerless, with no meaningful recourse to challenge these arbitrary decisions.

As a dominant force in the publishing industry, Amazon KDP holds an immense responsibility to treat its users fairly. These opaque and punitive practices are not just harmful—they’re unacceptable.

We demand that Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing:

 1. Reinstate wrongfully terminated accounts and provide clear, detailed explanations for account closures or content bans.

 2. Implement a transparent and fair dispute resolution process for authors and publishers.

 3. Cease retaliatory actions against users who seek clarification or challenge decisions.

By signing this petition, you are joining me in standing up for the rights of independent publishers and authors who rely on Amazon KDP to bring their work to readers. Together, we can demand that Amazon create a fairer, more transparent system for everyone.

Let’s hold Amazon accountable for its actions and ensure that the voices of publishers and authors are heard.
