Greenhouse Gas Transparency Campaign

Greenhouse Gas Transparency Campaign
The Issue
Transportation is largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, and over 90% of the fuel used to power our transportation is petroleum based. This means that the transportation industry is a serious threat to our climate and poses risks to human health. Further, low-income communities and communities of color are more likely to be located near freight centers and highly trafficked roads, thereby concentrating pollution impacts in these areas.
Transportation plays a major role in our daily lives: personal travel, public transit, trash pick up, transportation of goods and services, and delivering our packages. Heavy-duty vehicles (trucks, buses) generate more than 25% of transportation emissions but only make up 5% of all vehicles on the road. Mitigating heavy-duty vehicle pollution is critical to our air quality and future climate.
Consumers have the right to know what emissions are associated with the transportation of goods and services so that we can make more informed, climate conscious decisions. As consumers, our voices have the power to push companies to take responsibility for their climate contributions and make a conscious effort to provide consumers with more sustainable options for product transportation.
Take action to urge corporations to include GHG emissions labels on their products and shipping options so that consumers can be empowered to make the environmentally responsible choice!
