Force Amazon and other retailers to disclose when goods contain palm oil

The Issue

As you read this, rainforests in the Amazon and Indonesia are going up in flames and orang utans are being burned alive in their homes.   Western governments are shamefully complicit in this.  They pretend to care about the environment, but they won't ban palm oil imports and they try to censor advertising campaigns that would raise awareness.

This leaves it to individual consumers.  Many of us care deeply about the environmental damage and habitat destruction that is caused by deforestation for palm oil plantations.

Currently, the only power we have as individuals is to curb this is to avoid palm oil in products that we buy.  This is made difficult because manufacturers and retailers are NOT BEING HONEST about what is in their products.  They are deliberately HIDING their ugly secret behind latin wand scientific words.

For example: Soap manufacturers use terms like "SODIUM PALMATE".  THIS IS JUST A FANCY WORD FOR PALM OIL!  Even worse, some soaps that say they contain no palm oil may actually contain glycerine derived from palm oil.  Unless it specifically says it doesn't, you can assume that it probably does.  Chocolates and Nutella contain "PALM KERNEL OIL".  Again, this is palm oil.

Some expensive luxury soaps like the Il Frutetto actually boast about being vegan friendly and not tested on animals...yet their main ingredient is "sodium palmate" - palm oil.  Anyone who points this out in product questions on Amazon gets jumped on within minutes by the retailers's paid shills pretending to be consumers, saying how wonderful the product is.  These people have blood on their hands.

There ARE ethical soap manufacturers, like NIUGINI and ALTER/NATIVE, but they face unfair competition from shady, profit hungry manufacturers and retailers who hide what they are doing behind fancy Latin names for palm oil.

THIS NEEDS TO STOP!!!!

If huge retailers and selling platforms like Amazon were forced to disclose in plain language whether a product is palm oil and palm oil derivative free, people would be able to make informed decisions about what they are buying.

There would be a level playing field and consumers would have a choice to choose between ethical and unethical products, without the truth being hidden from them.  Some might use this information and choose to buy other products instead.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO:

- FORCE AMAZON AND OTHER RETAILERS TO DISCLOSE CLEARLY WHETHER PRODUCTS THEY SELL CONTAINS PALM OIL OR NOT.

- CALL ON THE UK GOVERNMENT TO REQUIRE ANY MANUFACTURER OR RETAILER SELLING PRODUCTS IN THE UK TO DISCLOSE AND LABEL CLEARLY WHETHER A PRODUCT CONTAINS PALM OIL AND DERIVATIVES.
