Right 2 Dream Too is a rest area for houseless people that has been open since October 11, 2011. We have been being fined since February 1,2012 by the Bureau of Development Services. The fines started at $641.32 the first two months and since then they have doubled to almost $1300 every month for being a “recreational campground” under the same ordinance that they would use for a KOA or a boy scout or girl scout camp. CAMPING FOR SURVIVAL IS NOT RECREATION!!. We are homeless people helping other homeless people with what we have and receive no city, state, or federal funding. We pay all our own bills through donations. We have been the platform from which 50 people have found housing and 48 people have found jobs since we opened in October 2011. Yet we have been fined over $25,000 under and ordinance that the city itself admits doesn’t quite fit us. Please tell the BDS under the direction of Amanda Fritz and the rest of the city council to abate the fines on Right 2 Dream Too and let us help more homeless people.
