Two years ago, a friend of mine, Alyssa Hall sadly lost her life crossing the street to get to her bus stop. Alyssa was a junior at McDowell high school. She would be graduating high-school this year. McDowell high school is refusing to acknowledge her at graduation because it would be unfair to friends and families who have lost their loved one during high school. Although, i understand where they are coming from, I do think it’s time to start something new. We should start acknowledging students who have passed away, because they worked just as hard as the students that are physically here. Acknowledging students who have passed will show loved ones that schools truly care about ALL students. It is also respectful towards children who have lost their lives while enrolled in school. Alyssa’s family and friends, including myself are extremely upset because we believe, and we know, Alyssa deserves to be recognized at her graduation.
