ALTRINCHAM NEEDS A SKATEPARK - Build a Full Skatepark in Navigation Road Park

The Issue

I have been skateboarding for two years, and my friends and I are passionate about the sport. Currently, we face significant expenses traveling to Manchester and paying to use the skateparks there. The ramp at Navigation Road Park is outdated and not beginner-friendly. To create a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone, we need to expand and improve this facility into a full skatepark.

A new skatepark would provide a dedicated space for local skaters of all levels to practice and enhance their skills without the financial burden of traveling to Manchester. It would also promote physical activity among youth and offer a positive outlet for energy.

I am 16 years old and have lived in Altrincham my entire life. I know many people, both kids and adults, who use the current ramp constructively. However, the existing ramp is under-maintained, with large cracks and uneven coping that could lead to serious injuries. Additionally, the ramps are too large for beginners, making them unsafe and underutilized. Many see them as dangerous and unsuitable for learning.

To address these issues, we need more space for smaller ramps that are suitable for beginners. A flatground section, stairs, and even a bowl would be invaluable to the community. These additions would provide skateboarders a place to learn and progress without disturbing others in public areas, such as the town center. Currently, we have no dedicated spaces to practice and often face hostility from the public when we seek out flat, smooth areas. A new skatepark would eliminate this problem and create a perfect space for fun and sporting activities without disturbing the public and landowners.

Please sign this petition to support the creation of a full skatepark in Navigation Road Park.
