Meatless Mondays in Saint Louis Public Schools
The Issue
Saint Louis Public Schools (SLPS) have made large strides in recent years in improving the quality of school lunches. However, we can do more to provide increased plant-based options and instill lifelong healthy eating habits in Saint Louis' children. We know that diets heavy in meat and dairy are linked with diabetes, obesity, artery disease (atherosclerosis, leading to strokes and heart attacks), and cancer, and the foundation for these health outcomes is laid in childhood. More than 150 schools across the US have joined the Meatless Monday Movement. Let's make our voices heard and ask that SLPS join the ranks of districts at the forefront of improved lunch programs which take into consideration the health, environmental, and animal impacts of what they're serving.
