If there is a need to cancel school in the future, parents would prefer that this day be added to the end of the school calendar instead of an in-person day being replaced by remote learning. 

Emergency days are already built into the school year, so why not use them?  While we appreciate the teachers’ efforts and the administrators’ intentions in implementing remote learning, it does not provide the same benefit as in-class instruction.  This is especially true for the special needs community and young students.  

The late notice inherent in a school closure and lack of familiarity for this type of learning also decreases its effectiveness.  Many parents cannot facilitate this learning due to late notice or because they have multiple children in the schools.  Importantly, families with both parents working are at a disadvantage in this situation as well. 

For all these reasons, we kindly request the policy for school cancellations change from remote learning on these days to a cancellation of the school day.  This day would then be made up at the end of the year.
