Alter Taylor Michigan City Ordinance to Allow Citizens to Keep Chickens

The Issue

I am a resident of Taylor, Michigan, and for some time now, I have been nurturing chickens in my yard. These chickens are not merely pets or farm animals to me; they provide our family fresh, healthy, affordable eggs and chicken. However, the city ordinance in its current form threatens to strip us of these benefits by insisting on the removal of our poultry.

More than just an individual issue, the ability to keep chickens is a matter of food security for many families in our city. Current research shows that home-raised eggs can be a crucial part of a balanced, nutritious diet and, in most cases, are healthier than store-bought ones (American Poultry Association). Therefore, it is essential to allow city residents to raise chickens at homes, thus supporting Taylor's aim for a community focused on promoting health, affordability, and sustainability.

Contrastingly, city ordinance restrictions on raising chickens could lead to increased reliance on grocery stores for eggs and poultry which often come with high costs and uncertainty regarding animal welfare. We believe that changing the city ordinance will not only protect the rights of residents like me but will also reinforce Taylor, Michigan's commitment to sustainable living.

Join us in our pursuit to retain our chickens at home by signing our petition. Your support can help us drive change aimed at establishing affordability, health, and sustainability in our beloved city.
