The ALS Association has recently received $88 million in donations for the research of Lou Gehrig's disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, because of the ice bucket challenge. Since 1985, the ALS Association has conducted thousands of experiments on animals from mice to rabbits to monkeys, using $99 million in funds, with no tangible results to show for it. How can it be expected that with about the same funds, any further 'groundbreaking' research could be discovered with the same methods of study? 

This petition was created to ask the ALS Association to STOP animal experiments for the disease's research. 92% of drugs that are discovered to be effective for animals are NOT effective for humans. What is this research truly accomplishing?
