Stop Fox Hunting from Alnwick Castle

The Issue

For many years, the Duke of Northumberland and his family have allowed their name-sake ‘the Percy Hunt’ to meet at the entrance to their property of Alnwick Castle before riding out to take part in fox hunting across the local area and the Percy family’s land in north northumberland. With the introduction of the hunting act in 2004, Fox Hunting with dogs was made illegal in the U.K. leading the Percy hunt and others across the country to use artificial scent on what is commonly called a ‘drag hunt’. However, evidence has shown time and time again that even when people monitor the hunt, they are often not setting trails and are killing foxes regularly, with several hunts breeding foxes for the purpose of hunting with dogs and another near Sheffield in 2019 proudly displaying the dead body of the Fox they had killed on camera. Due to this blatant flouting of the law and the nature of this barbaric blood sport, this petition calls for Alnwick Castle (an international tourist attraction) and its owner the Duke of Northumberland to sever their connections with the hunt and ban them from meeting at the castle. Polling shows that 85% of the public are against Fox Hunting and this private business, associated with world-wide fame as part of the Harry Potter franchise and other movie/television success should respect that. Please sign and share across the world, so that Alnwick Castle and it’s owners can see the impact their support of this bloody and barbaric practise will have on their desire to increase visitors from across the world.
