One person, Mandy Neylon, Mountain City Shelter Director, runs this shelter alone. This means that she is the sole individual responsible for all duties that a shelter requires on a daily basis. She has to clean cages and kennels, feed the animals, take them to the vet, walk the dogs, socialize the cats, medicate sick animals, communicate with rescues for potential placement, patrol Mountain City and more all by herself. 

Allowing volunteers to do just a few things like walk the dogs, socialize the cats, clean cages, not only gives Mandy time to invest in seeking resources to help homeless animals, but gives our community an opportunity to help our animals which we have previously been denied. 

The homeless animal problem in our community is not going away. But those of us that want to help our animal shelter should be allowed to do so and affect a change for the good of our shelter and the animals that temporarily call it "home".
