In the USA Volunteer Firefighters are allowed to have Red and blue or Green flashing strobes on their private vehicles to allow them a faster response time to stations. I believe the uk can benefit greatly from scrapping the old law and re looking into it. I live in a tiny rural town where the local station is ONLY volunteers. Response time to the station for a call out is greatly impacted by the fact of having to sit in traffic lights behind agriculture vehicles. Or in a city situation in London for example with heavy traffic pedestrians cyclists at every turn will heavily slow down response time to even 15+ onto normal response time to a station. By allowing to have emergency lighting and sirens the time of response to the station could be halved maybe even more if private vehicles referred in the USA as (POV'S) improve response time and allow Volunteers to move quickly through traffic like a normal emergency vehicle can. I believe its time we allow those risking their lifes to get to the station 15 seconds to 30 minutes quicker because any second gained is a second more spent saving lifes not stuck in a red light.

I urge lawmakers and relevant authorities to revise existing policies and permit on-call volunteer firefighters in any area to use red and blue flashing lights on their personal vehicles. This simple change could have a profound impact on our community's safety.
