Allow UTV/ATV use on certain roads for access, raise the width of machines from 50" to 65"
The Issue
Growing up in the scenic landscapes of New Hampshire, one of my fondest memories is riding ATVs with my family, exploring the stunning trails that weave through the forests and open fields. These experiences deepened my appreciation for the natural beauty of our region and fostered a strong sense of community with fellow outdoor enthusiasts. However, accessing these treasured trails has become increasingly difficult due to current road regulations that prohibit UTVs and ATVs on certain public roads.
This petition aims to request local authorities in Winchester/Hinsdale New Hampshire to open certain roads to UTV and ATV use, allowing us direct access to trail system entrances and local businesses. Such a policy change would not only enhance the outdoor recreational opportunities available to the community but also support local businesses. By doing so, we can reiterate our commitment to promoting sustainable outdoor activities while boosting our local economy.
In regions like ours, UTVs and ATVs are not just recreational vehicles; they are integral to our daily lives and cultural identity. Current restrictions have severely limited our ability to fully enjoy the landscape that makes Winchester/Hinsdale New Hampshire special. Moreover, they impede on what should be a straightforward journey—connecting to the extensive network of trails that so many residents and visitors cherish. So we would like to ask for a connecting trail be opened to connect the Pisgah trail system to the Hinsdale trail system for UTV & ATV. I'd also like to see the max limit of 50" machines raised to 65" on the Pisgah trails.
In fact, similar initiatives in other parts of the United States have resulted in significant economic benefits for local communities. With proper regulation and safety measures, we can replicate these positive outcomes here in New Hampshire.
By opening up select roads to UTV and ATV access, we aren't just advocating for enhanced convenience. We are pushing for greater economic opportunities, fostering a stronger sense of community, and promoting a responsible, respectful culture of outdoor recreational use. Measures could include setting speed limits, enforcing noise regulations, and conducting regular safety inspections to ensure that this change benefits everyone.
Join me in urging our local policymakers to see the numerous benefits of permitting UTV and ATV access on designated roads. Our community's heritage, economy, and future deserve this attention and action. Please sign this petition to support our local businesses, enjoy more seamless access to our beautiful trail systems, and celebrate the spirit of adventure that defines New Hampshire. Together, we can make a difference.
