Allow USPS carrier Jeffrey to keep his NOPA 94117 route - Oct 16 last day after 33 years!
The Issue
**Please consider leaving a note of appreciation for Jeffrey at your mailbox on Thursday, Oct 16th, for his 33 years of service.**
I am writing to bring to your attention the reassignment of our beloved carrier, Jeffrey, from his long-standing NOPA route, San Francisco, zip 94117.
Jeffrey has dedicated 33 of his 35-year USPS career to serving this route and our neighborhood with care. He is being reassigned to the Lower Haight district, and his last day on our route is set for Thursday, October 16.
The decision to move him (or rather, his decision on whether to remain in our neighborhood but have his route greatly expanded or to move to a different location) appears based on recent sorting issues at the distribution center, which led to reduced mail delivery for a period of time. As a result, our route was determined to require fewer hours than it usually does. Once the distribution center sorting issues were resolved, combined with the new expanded area, Jeffrey's route has been increased by 1.5 hours each day, making it literally impossible for him to do his job.
Jeffrey's extensive experience and deep connection with our neighborhood have made him a vital member of our community, someone who knows our faces, families, and homes. In an era where community bonds are more fragile than ever, Jeffrey is invaluable. It is needless and unfair to uproot him from the people and place he has come to know so well.
We, Jeffrey's 94117 customers and friends, are heartbroken at the thought of losing him, and we believe that he has earned the seniority and respect to be allowed to finish his career with the route he has always served so exceptionally. USPS should recognize the waste of expertise and time that comes with reassigning such a dedicated employee. We urge them to reconsider this decision and allow Jeffrey to continue his service in NOPA, where he belongs.
Please sign this petition to show your support for Jeffrey and the positive impact he has made in our community. Together, we can send a message to USPS asking that he be allowed to remain on the original route and to continue being an important part of our community. Sign now to keep Jeffrey in NOPA.
Please note that Jeffrey did not ask us to do this. He is sad but at peace with this change. If we can't get USPS to reverse this decision, we will see him occasionally when he subs or helps other carriers. Jeffrey and his warm smile have been an invaluable presence in our 94117 NOPA neighborhood for 33 years; he will be sorely missed.
