Allow unblocked games in Williamsport Area School District

The Issue

Every student deserves a break, a little fun during school hours, and the chance to use games that could be educational. However, due to strict policies enforced by Go Guardian in the Williamsport Area School District, this simple freedom is being taken away from us. As a high school student, I find it frustrating that I can't access certain harmless games and websites during my free time because Go Guardian blocks them without a sensible reason. The internet wasn't just designed for academic purposes; it's a tool for creativity, relaxation, and social connection as well.

While we understand the need for internet safety and a distraction-free learning environment, the current restrictions are overly stringent. Completely banning sites that could offer educational lessons disguised as games or stress-relief activities is counterproductive. Go Guardian blocks a majority of gaming websites that could benefit students' cognitive and problem-solving skills.

Moreover, these restrictions don't just impact gaming sites. They've also blocked legitimate study resources under the guise of protection. This breadth of blocking has inadvertently hindered our learning curve, making it more of a hassle to find information that is essential for our education.

We propose a balanced approach. The administration should perform a thorough review of blocked websites and make adjustments. By allowing educational and low-risk games, students will benefit from the recreational and educational values these platforms provide.

Stop the senseless nature of these blocks. Instead, let's trust our students with a little more freedom, encouraging responsibility and self-regulation while still maintaining a safe online environment. Please sign this petition to urge the administrators to revise their policies and help us enjoy a more balanced online experience without the unnecessary restrictions of Go Guardian.
