The Issue

My son, along with 20 other young boys on the Ventnor City junior varsity team, eagerly looks forward to game days. For them, walking onto the field with flags in hand and music playing is not just a routine; it’s a vital part of their sports experience. This tradition invigorates them, boosts their confidence, and makes them feel empowered and unstoppable. It's a moment that they cherish, and as parents, we love witnessing the pride and joy it brings our children.

Sports are about building character, teamwork, and spirit. Allowing our kids to march forth with the excitement of music and the visual beacon of flags can significantly enhance their morale and enthusiasm. It’s a practice that fosters unity among the players and uplifts their performance, making them feel like true champions.

Currently, the junior varsity team is not permitted this simple, yet impactful tradition. While high school sports rightly focus on discipline and structure, incorporating elements that inspire and motivate young athletes should not be overlooked. By allowing our children this liberty, we are supporting not just their athletic development, but their overall growth and confidence. Not to mention the boys see EVERY other team walking out with flags and music and sadly ask "why not us?"

Let's make this positive change for our community and our kids. We urge Ventnor City sports authorities and local school officials to reconsider the current restrictions and allow our junior varsity team to carry their flags and walk out to music proudly.

Please sign this petition to support our boys and make their game days even more memorable.
