Allow The Feeding Of Piegons

Allow The Feeding Of Piegons
The Issue
Piegons, they have a long history with people. They were the first animal to ever be domesticated by humans, even before cats or dogs. They served humanity for thousands of years, they were food, they served in both wars and saved hundreds of soldiers lives risking their own to deliver messages, medicine and locations of soldiers who needed help. They served on the US Coast Guard, saving thousands upon thousands of lives. The reason life jackets are red yellow or orange is because piegons were trained to locate those lost or in trouble at sea by looking for those colours. The piegons you see today come from lost domestic birds, they weren’t born in the “wild” they are feral birds. Just like feral cats or feral dogs. Now society has advanced in technology and sadly these incredible smart animals are forgotten and treated like vermin. You see them sickly looking for garbage to eat and scraps of food, that is why they are sickly, piegons natural food is grains and seeds something that they can’t find in the so called wild natural world. They stay in cities around people because they always have been around people. I’m asking you to sign this petition to amend the bylaw to allow piegons to be fed seed, not garbage. You wouldn’t treat any other war hero animal like vermin why treat these veterans like vermin? They deserve so much better, they didn’t ask to live the way they do it’s humans that made them this way, and now we can’t even offer them proper food? I’m not asking to amend the bylaw to allow people to feed wildlife, piegons are not wildlife they are feral birds through no fault of their own. Let’s get the city to amend this bylaw and allow people to fed the piegons without being threatened, or harmed or intimidated by other people. I along with other people who toss some seeds down for pigeons have been threatened, intimidated and even assaulted. Please let’s sign this petition and get city council officials to amend this bylaw to allow feeding pigeons.
