The Issue

For many years, we've thought of the 'Bird Man' as a symbol of care in our community. This Hartlepool's very own has spent his days nurturing the wild birds in our town, providing us all with a beautiful reminder of unity and harmony within nature.

For many, he is more than just a man, but a beacon of tranquility and safety for our town's wildlife. Unfortunately, recent laws and regulations threaten to disrupt this peaceful routine. The city’s wildlife deserves his care. More than 3 billion birds have disappeared from North America since 1970 due to various factors including habitat loss, and people like our Bird Man play a crucial role in maintaining local bird populations. (Rosenberg, Kenneth V., et al. "Decline of the North American avifauna." Science 366.6461 (2019): 120-124)

We must stand up for the rights of our local heroes, for the traditions that make our community unique, and for the wildlife that add richness to our shared environment. It's time we let the Bird Man continue his acts of kindness towards the birds of Hartlepool. We hope that city officials take this matter to heart and adjust local regulations to make room for this appreciated tradition.
