Hi!  My name is Kathleen Eaton.  My family and I have lived in Remington Estates for over 20 years.  My husband and I have raised all four of our kids in this neighborhood.  Both my husband and I work in education, I'm a school social worker and my husband is an assistant principal.  We are lucky enough to be able to enjoy most of the summer with our kids.  One of the activities that my kids have loved has been spending time playing in water. 

In our beloved city of Independence, we are faced with a challenge that prevents us from enjoying the simple pleasures of summer. Independence does not have a public outdoor pool that residents can use, nor are there any clubs offering pool memberships within city limits. For many families and individuals who look forward to the refreshing embrace of water on a hot summer day, building an in-ground pool is simply too costly.

This is a heartfelt plea to the Remington Estates HOA board to permit above-ground temporary pools in our backyards from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Allowing such temporary pools would give the people of Independence an affordable option to enjoy the water without having to leave our community or break the bank. Imagine the joy in our neighborhoods as families gather, children play, and people of all ages find reprieve in their very own backyards—this simple measure can significantly improve our quality of life.

Temporary above-ground pools are a practical solution, they can be set up easily for the summer season and dismantled afterward, ensuring minimal disruption. Safety regulations and guidelines can be established to ensure everyone enjoys these pools responsibly.

Many communities across the country have already adopted similar regulations, recognizing the benefits and simplicity of allowing temporary pools during summer. By granting this allowance, we offer our residents a chance to foster community spirit, promote outdoor activities, and most importantly, ensure an accessible means for everyone to enjoy summer at its fullest.
