In Swale, a poignant question has arisen: should licensed taxis and private hire vehicles be permitted to pay tribute to those who have bravely served in the Armed Forces by adorning their vehicles with Remembrance Poppies and 'Lest we Forget' signs? This issue resonates deeply with me since iCars (Swale) was recently instructed by Swale Borough Council to remove all Poppies and Remembrance Stickers from their vehicles as these seemingly simple symbols contravene existing licensing policies.

Every year, we gather to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. The Remembrance Day Poppy is more than just a flower; it's a powerful emblem of respect and acknowledgment of their service. In a community where so many have connections to the military, whether through family members, friends, or personal service, it seems unjust to stifle this heartfelt expression of remembrance.

As a community, we must ask ourselves what message this sends about the value we place on remembering our heroes. Must all symbols of honour be confined to Remembrance Day services, or can they be part of our daily lives as constant reminders of gratitude?
