Allow Swimming Lessons for Children in Northshore Neighborhood
The Issue
My heart often clenches in fear as I recount the numerous incidents at the Northshore community pool when children from our neighborhood have come dangerously close to drowning, simply because they lack the basic knowledge of water safety and swimming. This has not only posed a threat to the well-being of our children, but it has also instilled a perpetual fear in the minds of families across our community.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, drowning remains the single leading cause of injury-related death among children ages 1 to 4. Our neighborhood has a countless amount of children in that age range. This sobering fact underlines the urgent need for accessible swimming lessons for the children in our neighborhood. These lessons are essential, not only as a vital life skill but also as a fundamental safety measure to reduce the risk of unfortunate incidents.
It's crucial for us to advocate for the safety of our children and future generations to come. Therefore, we call upon the DR Horton Home Owners Association to allow swimming lessons for children in the Northshore neighborhood. One-on-one lessons would only be provided to members of our tight-knit community. There would not be any group lessons. The trusted adult would have eyes locked on that child the entire time. There would not be any increase in liability. Instead, the benefit of children learning swim safety would counteract more liability that could occur.
We owe it to our children to ensure their safety and give them the opportunity to enjoy their childhood without instilling fear in their innocent hearts. It is high time we took action for the better. Please sign this petition and join us in allowing every child in Northshore the option of receiving swimming lessons.
