Allow Students in Loudoun County, VA Schools to Play Games at Their Discretion
The Issue
I am a student in Loudoun County, VA, and like many of my peers, I find the school's policy of blocking all games on school computers to be restrictive and unnecessary. We believe that games can be an important part of learning and development. They can help improve problem-solving skills, enhance creativity, and provide stress relief during intense study periods.
Research supports our claim. According to a study by Michigan State University's Children and Technology Project (2012), video game playing is linked with greater creativity among children. Moreover, the American Psychological Association (2017) found that strategic video games can improve problem-solving skills.
We are not advocating for unrestricted gaming during class hours but rather for a more balanced approach that recognizes the potential benefits of gaming while ensuring it does not interfere with academic responsibilities.
We urge the Loudoun County School Board to reconsider their blanket ban on games in schools. Let us play responsibly at our discretion – it could lead to better engagement and improved learning outcomes. Please sign this petition if you support our cause.
