Students attending public school in St. Martin Parish (6th grade and up) are not allowed to wear uniform shorts. Girls can wear skirts (not skorts) but no one is allowed to wear shorts. Many parishes surrounding St. Martin parish do not have this same uniform rule.

It is way too hot in south Louisiana for kids to not have the option of wearing school permitted uniform shorts. From all the research and school board members I have spoken to, not one person can give me a reason for this rule. It is absolutely ridiculous. The private and Christian schools in our area are even allowed to wear shorts. These children are in public school in some of the hottest months of the year. 

I have done lots of research and there is NO research out there suggesting that uniforms make it safer, help prevent bullying, or help economically. In fact as the children reach their teens, uniforms are becoming REALLY hard to find. The pants are also VERY expensive. The cheapest I could find this year was $50 for just one pair, while shorts were $10 on the racks across from the pants. Not everyone who attends public school can afford this for uniforms. Since COVID has passed uniforms are very scarce especially for teens. It should NOT be a struggle to find uniforms for kids to wear if it is going to be mandated. 

Help me get this rule overturned so the kids have an option to wear shorts. This can help families in many ways.
