Allow street legal golf carts to be driven at night and on Seawall Blvd.

Allow street legal golf carts to be driven at night and on Seawall Blvd.
Why this petition matters

City Council is discussing the possibility of changing golf cart ordinance to included restrictive or no night driving as well as banning carts from Seawall Blvd. This petition is to convey the voice of the constituents who oppose these changes and who feel this attention on golf carts is a knee jerk reaction to a recent accident caused by a drunk driver in a truck involving a golf cart.
The real issue at hand is more enforcement on drunk drivers and street safety. Not more golf cart restrictions. Therefore, local golf cart owners who operate permitted carts should continue to be allowed to operate carts at night and on Seawall Blvd. as currently allowed by state law and city ordinance.
Resident cart owners live on this island to enjoy a certain lifestyle. Golf carting being a big part of that life.
Many residents use their cart daily not only for recreation but as their main mode of transportation to save money on gas or to reduce emissions.
Eliminating night driving will prohibit many from getting to and from work, dinner, the beach or any other island amenities. The same is the case with banning carts from the seawall. Both of these restrictions will certainly impact local businesses with revenue loss.
This petition will be presented to the Mayor, City Council and other City Officials in the hope they will not change the current golf cart ordinance where it concerns night driving and driving on Seawall Blvd.
By signing this petition, it will show your support on these issues by strength in numbers.
