Paulding County’s Unified Development Ordinance (Ordinance No. 2026-02) completely bans local landowners from offering open parking for personal RVs, boats, and utility trailers unless they also construct expensive, commercial brick-and-mortar self-storage facilities.

This creates an artificial, cost-prohibitive barrier to entry that prevents landowners from utilizing their property efficiently. It also creates a massive storage shortage for local residents who just need a safe, local spot to park their recreational vehicles to avoid HOA fines.

We support keeping out heavy 18-wheelers and enforcing strict visual screening like privacy fencing. However, forcing property owners to clear-cut green space and build commercial warehouses makes no economic or environmental sense.

We, the undersigned residents and property owners, urge the Board of Commissioners to amend the UDO to permit standalone, heavily screened light-vehicle storage without a mandatory commercial building footprint.
