The Issue

Social Media platforms are forcing AI features and chatbots onto its users without a way to disable or hide them from appearing on their platforms.

Examples of this are TikTok Tako, Meta AI and Snapchat's My AI. They have made it impossible for users to remove these chats or buttons which limits the ability for users who do not want these features visible in their app to hide or remove them.

In Snapchat's case, to gain the ability to remove My AI from the app, you must purchase their premium subscription. This isn't fair and denies users the ability to opt-out of AI features who do not want to pay.

Social Media platforms need to focus on what their platform is for. Connecting with others and not pushing for chatbots within their apps when there are already AI Chatbots, such as ChatGPT, readily available to use outside of their platforms.

This is an attempt to force people into using them so these companies can profit off their usage on top of all their ad-free and premium subscriptions they provide to earn money from its users. They should not make users pay for their in-app subscription to gain the ability to remove it.

In other cases, these platforms are now pushing these features onto you while you message Family & Friends or searching for content. It can be inconvenient for users who are having important conversations or using their search to find similar content. They would not want interference from these features appearing during those moments.

Giving users the choice to disable these features does more good than harm. It will limit discouragement of its users from using their platforms altogether. These platforms generate enough revenue through their subscriptions and running ads. The inability to opt-out of these AI features is another way for them to earn more revenue.

If you do not want AI features getting in the way of your daily communication and platform usage, you should have the ability to remove them completely from their platform without having to pay. It should not be treated like an ad-free subscription and should be made possible no matter if you pay or not.
