As tax-paying residents, many of us have been enjoying the pleasure of playing soccer at Big Rec Nealson Diamond Field since 2020. This athletic space has become more than just a field to us, but a cherished community hub where we can freely express our love for the sport. The recent restrictions imposed, claiming that the use of soccer cleats is damaging the playing surface, lacks logical foundation, given that the field was designed for sports like baseball where cleats are an integral part of the equipment.

San Francisco, a city thriving with over 883,000 residents, has limited playing areas to cater to its diverse population (US Census Bureau, 2019). Denying access to recreational spaces such as Big Rec Nealson Diamond not only restricts the citizens from leading a healthy, active lifestyle, but also deprives the community of a shared passion that brings us together. We, the residents and regular-soccer enthusiasts, propose a fair solution but to demonstrate that soccer play has minimal detrimental effects on the field condition.
