The Issue

In Franklin, IN, there's an inconsistency that directly impacts residents like myself who believe in safer and more efficient transportation within city limits. Johnson County has recognized the benefits of side by sides and allowed their use outside city limits, but for those of us residing within Franklin, we do not share the same privilege. Strangely, golf carts, which offer less safety and functionality, are permitted.

Many of us rely on side by sides, or RZRs, for daily commutes and leisure activities. These robust vehicles are built with safety in mind, featuring roll cages, seat belts, and other attributes that sets them apart from golf carts. Not only are they designed for durability, but they also provide greater utility with their off-roading capabilities and space for additional passengers and cargo.

Statistics show that side by sides have a better safety record when compared to golf carts. According to data from consumer safety reports, side by sides have fewer accident reports in controlled environments due to their enhanced stability and safety features. This makes them a more practical option for families and individuals wanting secure, multipurpose, and dependable transportation.

Allowing side by sides in Franklin city limits would not only align with the policy already established in Johnson County but also promote a safer choice for our community. It's time to modernize our laws to favor practical transportation solutions and acknowledge the evolving needs of our residents.

Sign this petition to urge the City Council of Franklin, IN, to amend local regulations and permit the use of side by sides within city limits. Let’s make our community safer and more forward-thinking.
