The Issue

As a Just Eat rider, operating within the gig economy has been both a rewarding and challenging experience. Daily, I navigate the bustling streets, working hard to ensure that hungry customers receive their meals on time. However, amidst this routine, there's a significant obstacle that complicates the process for riders like myself, as well as for merchants and customers.

Currently, Just Eat requires its delivery riders to use a chat support system to cancel an order. This process can take hours, leaving us riders significantly out of pocket, while orders remain unfulfilled, ultimately affecting the merchants and customers as well. A simple order cancellation, when requested, should not be this complicated and time-consuming.

Here is a video of me discussing my experience of a recent problem I ran into where I needed to cancel...

Generally Just Eat rider's only want to cancel an order in extenuating circumstances such as excessive waiting time and app glitches that cause merchants to not receive orders.

Just Eat states that riders who are willing to wait are entitled to a waiting time reimbursement but this is often going unpaid!

Implementing a self-cancellation button for riders would alleviate these issues. It would provide us with the autonomy to manage unforeseen circumstances more efficiently and prevent long wait times for all parties involved. Self-cancellation would ensure quicker resolutions and lead to a more reliable service. This change does not only stand to benefit us riders, but also merchants who are not left hanging due to delays, and customers who would receive timely updates on their order status.

Efficient delivery services are pivotal in maintaining customer satisfaction and retaining market competitiveness. Statistics show that platforms that streamline support processes see higher satisfaction rates among their workers. Moreover, permitting self-cancellations could reduce the burden on the support team, allowing them to address more complex issues effectively.

Join me in urging Just Eat to introduce a self-cancellation button for its delivery riders. This simple, yet impactful change could revolutionize our working conditions, enhance customer and merchant satisfaction, and improve overall service efficiency. Sign this petition to call for Just Eat to adopt a better, smarter system that values its riders and their needs. Together, we can drive a change that benefits the entire delivery ecosystem.
